asia pacific flavor

we love chinese food in our home! i think our time living in china and papua new guinea gave use a deeper appreciation and love for the food. there are times i crave the dumplings from the street vendors in shashi. we would go out almost every night around 10pm and eat fried dumplings. we would gather around the little lady making the dumplings, practically drooling over how delicious they looked. we would be drenched with sweat when we were finished, but it sure didn't stop us!

in madang, we would go to a little place called eden. it overlooked the pacific ocean and the breeze was always so cool and refreshing there. we loved going there even though it wasn't often, because it meant i didn't have to cook dinner that night. you see, png is very primitive and is almost exactly opposite of any first world country. so, going out to dinner was huge! once when my sister came to visit we walked to eden. it was so hot and humid in madang, that it was wonderful to step inside, where you instantly felt the cool air conditioning.

stir fry is an easy and yummy dish we make often.

first, i marinade the cubed chicken breast pieces in mr. yoshida's sauce (purchased at costco) for a couple hours before cooking.

then, in a wok with hot oil, i cook the chicken. i also add some sesame oil and soy sauce to the wok.

then i add lots of veggies~bell peppers, snow peas, bok choy, mushrooms, zucchini, bean sprouts...whatever i have on hand. i just cook then for a couple of minutes until the veggies are tender. i also add some minced garlic and red pepper flakes. we love spice!

then i add in the noodles that i have cooked ahead of time in another pot. chow mein, soba or rice noodles work great.
