our morning began with my husband making heart-shaped pancakes for us.
we went out to lunch.
we came home and gave each other the cards we made for one another. it's so cute to see how everyone lights up when they read their cards!
my little guy thought it was so fun that i made his valentine's card into a paper airplane!

our day began with heart-shaped pancakes before it was off to school for my little lady. we gave each other the Valentine's we made for one another.

i made big rice crispy treats to look like hershey kisses...i saw the idea somewhere on pinterest.

we made a fancy dinner that included steak, salad, twice baked potatoes, asparagus and chocolate covered strawberries for dessert.

weekend randomness
on friday night, we had friends over for dinner. i made a ton of chinese food...egg rolls, fried rice and thai basil shrimp. i hung up these vintage lanterns i bought last summer at the flea market to make our evening festive. i made baked oatmeal casserole on saturday morning. and on sunday, i made corn dog pie and guacamole and chips for snack. can you tell we like to eat!
my little lady and i when to our local hardware store and bought seeds for an early spring garden. the kids also spent time playing with all their play dough toys.
we worked on valentine's boxes. my little lady had to make a valentine's box for her party this week and we found this cute idea here.
i watched the grammy's and sat by the fire. i can't get enough of The Lumineers! Did you have any favorites?

hello february!
i have a confession to make... my name is melissa and i'm addicted to my chalkboard.
i could doodle for hours. i often doodle ideas on paper and then draw them on one of my chalkboards.
i have 3 chalkboards in my house...see, i told you i have a problem.
there is just something so relaxing to me about drawing. i learned how to draw scrolls and banners in 5th grade and i still like making them. thanks to my art teacher, i still have some of those art skills i was taught!
i still can't believe it's february! it seems like this month is going to fly by. what about you?

valentine's day
our day began with chocolate waffles, topped with strawberries and whipped cream. i found the recipe here.
i wrote everyone letters of "the ten things i love about you." we read them out loud over breakfast.
then, we were off to bible study and then to my little lady's school for her valentine's day party. i ran the cookie decorating center for the kids and had a great time! she brought home lots of cards and candy.
i made heart calzones for dinner. they were not that hard to make and my family loved them! i just made my pizza dough, rolled out the dough and used a cookie cutter to make the dough into heart shapes.
i made the inside mixture with tomato sauce, herbs, italian chicken sausage, garlic and cheese.
i used a fork to pinch the sides and baked them at 400 degrees for 10 minutes.
the jello hearts were a hit too! i found that recipe here.

layers of love
today, i worked on a valentine's day shirt for my little lady.
first, i cut out different size hearts to be used as my pattern. then, i used steam-a-seam and ironed it onto the back of my fabrics. once all the hearts were cut out, i peeled off the back of the steam-a-seam and placed them on the shirt.
then i sewed on the hearts and that was it...a cute shirt for my little lady to wear on valentine's day!

little hearts equal one big heart
after school today, my little lady and i had craft time.
we used different shades of pink and red paper and punch out tiny hearts. then, we used the tiny hearts to make one big heart.
i just adore my time with her! there is something so special about just sitting together and being present in the moment!

valentine's day countdown
i wanted something different this year to act as our countdown to valentine's day. i found these cute plastic hearts in the dollar bin at target. i wrote out a bible verse for each heart and added some candy to it. so each morning, we will be reminded of God's love for us and how we can love each other, plus a little something sweet to go with it!

Happy Valentine's Day
Our day, began with pancakes for breakfast. I added food coloring to some of the batter, then put it in a squeeze bottle.

I added the batter to the pan and the used my squeeze bottle to make a heart. My little lady loved it!

I had fun decorating the table! We aren't big into giving gifts, but I bought my litle lady a basket for her bike and put some candy in it.

Looking at her valentine's cards.

Lunch...heart-shaped sandwiches!

Decorating cookies...yummy!

Hang out on the couch after watching "A Charlie Brown Valentine."
We are having a nice dinner at home later this evening...what are you doing?
