4th of July

on the 4th of July, i let the kids pick what they wanted to do for the day. they had been asking me for a couple of weeks to have a pirate-themed day and they chose to do it on the 4th. i'm not sure how pirates and celebrating our independence goes together, but it turned out to be a great day!

we made pirate hats to make our day festive.  while the paint dried, we watched the movie Hook.
after the movie, there was a knock at the door and a treasure map left for the kids. they found their treasure (supplies for s'mores) in 3 different location.
we made a yummy dinner...
pirate's punch
shrimp boil...super easy and yummy!
out-to-sea jello
we ended the day outside, eating s'mores and setting off fireworks with our neighbors.

my 1st pair of big girl panties!

the other day, i got a package in the mail from my bestie, Mandy. i'm so glad i have amazing girlfriends, especially this one!

you see, a couple of weeks ago, Mandy and i were chatting via Skype. thank goodness for Skype! i was complaining, yes...complaining, about our lack of plans for the 4th of July and that everyone seemed to be going out of town or had plans. i was also sad because my husband would be working on the 4th. our husbands are in the same line of work and she truly understands the fact that our husbands are sometimes not around for holidays. don't get me wrong, i'm not complaining about my husband's job, he has a great job, that he loves. but sometimes, it's just hard.
i told her i just needed to "put on my big girl panties" a.k.a "stop complaining" and make the best of the day.

well, look what was in the box...my very own big girl panties!
so with that, i hope you have an amazing 4th of July...i know, i will!

4th of July

our day began with red, white and blue pancakes.

then, we headed off to the pool, for some swimming.  our little lady is officially an independent swimmer!

we spent the evening with our neighbors, playing games, enjoying a potluck and s'mores.

4th of july

the last 2 days have been filled with fun!

for the second year in a row, we went downtown to the civic center park to watch fireworks, listen to the symphony and see the light show. we took a picnic dinner and had a great time!

today, we went and bought fireworks and spent most of the day outside with some water fun!

for dinner we had a yummy bbq...chicken, corn on the cob, baked beans, and fruit salad.

for dessert...smores!

patriotic waffles

this morning i made patriotic waffles for my family.

first, i made up my waffle batter. then, took some of the batter and made it red using food coloring.

i put the red batter in my squeeze bottle.

i put a layer of batter in the waffle maker and added blueberries for the area of the flag that is blue. then squeezed on lines using the red batter for the stripes.

i think they turned out really cute after they were done cooking!

we also decided to decorated them a bit more with whip cream, strawberry slices and more blueberries.

everyone loved them!

red, white and blue popsicles

first, i pureed some strawberries. then, i pureed the blueberries. i then added some chopped strawberries to the strawberry puree and likewise added whole blueberries to it's puree.

i added each of the purees to a bowl of vanilla pudding that i had already made up and mixed it together.

in order to get my red, white and blue effect, i layered them into my popsicle molds. first, the strawberry mixture. next, vanilla yogurt. finally, the blueberry mixture.

a fun and yummy treat to begin our 4th of july weekend!

red, white & blue

4th of july is just a couple weeks away and i'm getting excited!

i love fireworks.

celebrating our freedom.

and eating great bbq!

i always like to put up a few red, white and blue things during this time of year.
here are most of my materials. i also used mod podge, red glitter, a number cut out of the number 4, and letter cut outs of 't' and 'h', plus my glue gun.
i used scrapbooking paper and cut out triangles. then i stamped on the saying.
i cut strips of fabric and wrapped it around the wreath form.
i added some twine to hang my saying from.
glued the paper bunting to the twine.
maked the rosettes.
i used mod podge and glittered the "4th" and glued it on. on the front door is where it hangs!
