shrove tuesday...fat tuesday...or mardi gras in french.
all names for today and the days leading up to lent.
for some, lent is a time where people give up certain rich and yummy foods as we prepare for easter. as history has it, weeks before lent are a time of parties and a "last chance" before fasting and self-discipline is to come.
So, on fat tuesday... milk, eggs, fats, meats, and sugars...all the "rich" ingredients were used up, in order to be ready for the fast. one way they used these ingredients was by making pancakes.
shrove tuesday was also called pancake day.
on the menu for us tonight, was...swedish pancakes...a family favorite!
we might not give up all of these things as some do, but this is my favorite time of the year and I can't wait to share more with you tomorrow!
