things i'm reading...
Hinds' Feet on High Places by Hannah Hurnard
this was recommended by one of my friends...it's an allegory and reminds me a lot of The Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe, by C.S. Lewis. I love the symbolism!
The G Free Diet by Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Gluten-free Makeovers by Beth Hillson
i've been trying to do no gluten since March and it has been a great choice for me. i haven't been tested for celiac disease, but i'm pretty sure i have at least a gluten sensitivity. i've also read that with my thyroid issues that there is a correlation of having a sensitivity to gluten. i've been trying lots of new recipes and i feel a lot better!
Beekeeping for Dummies by Howland Blackiston
i'm hoping to become a beekeeper soon! there are some classes i want to take that will walk me through the process of caring for my own hive.
The Backyard Homestead by Carleen Madigan
we are in the process of preparing our yard for a much bigger garden next year.
The Backyard Homestead: Guide to Raising Farm Animals by Gail Damerow
along with a bigger garden, chickens will be added to our yard. i've wanted to raise chickens for their eggs and since i'm allergic to dogs and cats and my children are begging for a pet we have agree to raise some chickens. i know that chickens aren't like a dog or cat, but it will give them something to take care of and really, they just love any animal, so anything will be exciting! we will be building our chicken coop this fall/winter and prepare for our chicks come springtime.
Some of the books i've been reading, have been influenced by me reading the book, "7: An Experimental Mutiny Against Excess," by Jen Hatmaker. i talked about it a couple of weeks ago and it has prompted us to incorporate some more greener ways of living into our life...eat locally grown or from our own backyard, try and eat as much organic stuff as possible, and use what we already have. we have a nice backyard, so why not make it more practical and useful for us.
