stained glass butterfly

since my little lady will be turning 5 years old this week, we've decide to make it "rainbow week." she will be have a rainbow themed birthday party on friday, but i thought it would be fun to do a little something each day! we began with a craft.

materials needed~
contact paper
1 large piece of construction paper
tissue paper...the colors of a rainbow
scissors
1 pipe cleaner
single hole punch

first, i folded the construction paper in half and drew half of a butterfly, then cut it out.

i measured out the amount of contact paper i would need and then cut it. i then pealed the contact paper, so that the sticky side was exposed. lay the sticky side up, flat on the counter.

open up the cut butterfly outline and place it flat on the contact paper. smooth out any bubbles or wrinkles.

cut pieces of tissue paper and lay onto the contact paper. cover the entire area of the butterfly.

cut another piece of contact paper and peel it back. lay it over the butterfly sticky side down. smooth out any bubbles or wrinkles.

cut around the outside of the butterfly to get rid of the excess contact paper.

at the top of the butterfly, punch a hole and add a pipe cleaner for the antennae. place the butterfly in a window so that light will shine through and give the look of stained glass.
